Beagles and Ramsay remove the popular, over-exposed melodies from Madonna and Prince songs to create disturbing renditions of lost love. Trapped inside a Glasgow bed-sit, the two artists (made up as geriatric versions of themselves) perform the lyrics as a monotone monologue. Evacuating the happy pop elements, they leave viewers in a space simultaneously familiar but increasingly disturbing.
John Beagles and Graham Ramsay are based in Glasgow, Scotland. They have worked together since 1996 and released an album entitled "Can't Pay Won't Pay" in 1998. They have exhibited at the ICA (London), the Migros Museum (Zurich), PS1 and the New Museum (New York), the Venice Biennale and the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
